They said there is a FAQ / errata coming. I don’t think it is the designer’s fault, because they have been really good about to responding to the BGG questions and clearing up the mistakes (I posted one really late at night and had an answer by the next morning). Others are glaringly problematic like explaining the benefits the monster gets from standing on a tile with a token on it but not including any rules on how to put down the tokens. Others are confusing, like referencing a rule from old betrayal that was explicitly removed in this version. Some are extremely minor and easy to fix, such as listing a component as needed even though the haunt rules state they aren’t needed. We’ve played 5 haunts I think, so 1/5th the entire game and every single one had some sort of mistake written in, rule holes just glaringly sitting there, it is a mess. Like I know all the betrayal games had a reputation for relying on FAQs, but this seems worse. We’ve been loving it! Don’t really have much more to add that hasn’t already been said except a criticism about the rulebooks. You can still split out and read the traitors tome in another room by yourself if you want, but because of potential reading and comprehension issues with smaller children the game by default has you reviewing both times communally before playing the haunt. Oh, one other thing, the haunts are designed so that there needn’t be any secret information. We play with our 7 year old daughter and she hasn’t had any major problems. And if you have young children (that are old enough to read at about a 2nd grade reading level) it works very well with them. Overall, if you like betrayal and have fond nostalgia for Scooby Doo I would say it’s definitely worth picking up. (Daphne starts with extra Scooby snacks, Scooby gets to move one additional tile beyond his speed, Fred gets to start with an item, Velma can’t roll below a 3 on intelligence checks, and Shaggy gets to reroll up to two dice per Scooby snack.) it gives the characters a bit more flavor than just stat variance from old guard betrayal. Each character has some bonus based upon what their good at. One thing I do like is the inclusion of character abilities. In the early game there rarely seems to be a need to use them and (when playing with 5 people) the entire available supply gets dispensed and hoarded for haunt thrashing. Each character can earn Scooby snacks as the game progresses that allow you to spend them to reroll a single die from any skill roll you make. One mechanic that we’ve found a bit clunky is the Scooby snacks. I will say the balance wise it seems to skew in favor of the Scooby gang having an easier path to victory than our masked monsters. Thus far I haven’t found and haunts or events that are ambiguous or confusing though. This makes the board feel smaller, but also makes the game play faster. Unlike classic betrayal, there are only two regions, inside and outside. You’re probably already aware, but it is worth noting that there is no set traitor selection, rather the group can use whatever method they want to select the traitor (and one of the Scooby gang goes missing). There is a lot of nostalgia in the haunts as they are all (I think) based on classic Scooby episodes. There are a total of 25 haunts, but rather than have all 25 possible at once, you preselect a group of 5 by complexity and will end up with one of those. Most of the rules are the same, with just minor variances. It is a fun little game, but definitely tuned for a younger audience. r/tabletopgamedesign - Designer's subreddit. r/boardgameexchange - selling/buying/trading games.Game of the Week Calendar Related Sites & Subreddits The simplest use is to bold game names in your comment and add " /u/r2d8 getinfo" at the end of the post, but this post/sub has other features identified.
